Our July 2024 update on what’s happening in the Citation M2 preowned aircraft market;
Thanks to new deliveries from the manufacturer, there are now 371 Citation M2s (and GEN2 variants) in operation as of June 2024, up 3 from the previous month. Of those, there are currently 26 for sale, or 7.0% of the fleet. This is up 2 from the previous month, when there were 24 for sale, or 6.5% of the fleet.
Looking first at the Citation M2s for sale today, they have been on the market for an average of 132 days, up from the previous month when the average was 112 days. As sales have been slowing the past few months, available inventory has continued to age on the market. The M2s for sale today range in ask price from $3,595,000 to $6,500,000.
Now looking at the sales data for the Citation M2 (and GEN2 variant), there was only 1 Citation M2 sold in June, but over the last six months there were 22 sold. Of those 22 sold, 8 of them were sold off market. The Citation M2s that sold over the last six months range in sold price from roughly $3,150,000 to $5,400,000.
The publicly listed Citation M2s that were sold spent an average of 91 days for sale before trading, down just over 30 days from last month when the average was 123 days. There were a few new M2s added to the market for sale in June, but the biggest reason for the reduced average days on market was the December sales data falling off our rolling six-month average. There were a lot of M2s sold in December, with a few of them having spent longer time on the market.
Due to the Citation M2’s popularity as an entry-level jet, many buyers plan to stay in the M2 for less than five years. As a result, the Citation M2 market is historically an active market, with new listings replacing sold units quickly.Â
