Citation M2 Acquisition & Buyer Representation
Buying a Citation M2 involves much more than finding an aircraft for sale.
Differences in maintenance history, engine program status, inspection status, equipment, operating history and market position can materially affect both the value of an M2 and the cost of owning it.
The Jet Agent provides dedicated buyer representation for Citation M2 acquisitions. We help clients determine whether the M2 is right for their mission, identify publicly marketed and off-market opportunities, establish market value, negotiate the transaction, evaluate the aircraft through due diligence and pre-purchase inspection, and manage the acquisition through closing and delivery.
Discuss Your Citation M2 Acquisition
Why Citation M2 Buyers Work With The Jet Agent
Citation-Specific Market Knowledge
Aircraft brokerage is not one-size-fits-all.
Understanding the Citation M2 market requires knowing more than which aircraft are currently advertised for sale.
We continually analyze M2 inventory, recent transactions, pricing, maintenance status, equipment and market activity to understand how an individual aircraft compares with the alternatives available to a buyer.
That knowledge becomes particularly important when two M2s that appear similar on paper carry materially different maintenance exposure, equipment, engine program status or market value.
On- and Off-Market M2 Sourcing
The best acquisition opportunity is not necessarily an aircraft publicly advertised for sale.
The Jet Agent searches both the active market and our network of Citation owners, operators and industry contacts to identify potential off-market opportunities.
In one documented acquisition for Greenwing Resource, The Jet Agent identified three Citation M2 candidates within a week. The aircraft ultimately selectedโa 2015 Citation M2, serial number 525-0870โwas not publicly for sale.
A Network Built Over Decades
Access to off-market aircraft isn’t about having a secret list.
It comes from relationships.
After the Greenwing Resource acquisition, Chief Pilot Stan Bergey described an important part of The Jet Agent’s value as giving the client access to a network and relationships that had taken decades to build.
Those relationships can expand the number of aircraft available for consideration and provide buyers with opportunities they may not find through public listings alone.
More Than Finding the Aircraft
Our role is to represent the buyer’s interests throughout the acquisition.
Depending upon the transaction, that can include:
- Mission and aircraft analysis
- Market research
- Public and off-market aircraft sourcing
- Valuation
- Offer and Letter of Intent negotiation
- Maintenance-record review
- Test-flight coordination
- Pre-purchase inspection support
- Coordination with aviation attorneys and other professional advisors
- Escrow and closing
- Delivery coordination
Finding an aircraft is the beginning of the processโnot the end of it.
Our Citation M2 Acquisition Process
1. Define the Mission
Before searching for an aircraft, we work to understand how it will actually be used.
We consider typical missions, passenger requirements, range, annual utilization, owner-flown versus professionally crewed operations, budget and other factors that affect aircraft selection.
Sometimes that analysis confirms that an M2 is the right airplane.
Sometimes it identifies another Citation as a better fit.
The objective isn’t simply to buy an M2.
It is to buy the right aircraft for the mission.
2. Analyze the Citation M2 Market
Once the acquisition criteria are established, we evaluate the available market.
That analysis may include:
- Publicly advertised Citation M2 inventory
- Potential off-market aircraft
- Recent comparable transactions
- Asking prices and market positioning
- Aircraft age and total time
- Maintenance and inspection status
- Engine program status
- Equipment and configuration
- Geographic location
- Other factors affecting value or desirability
This provides the context needed to distinguish an attractive acquisition opportunity from an aircraft that is simply available.
3. Source On- and Off-Market Aircraft
Public listings represent only part of the potential market.
The Jet Agent also uses relationships within the Citation community to identify owners who may consider selling even though their aircraft has not been publicly offered.
Off-market does not automatically mean better or less expensive.
It means the buyer isn’t limiting the search to aircraft that happen to be advertised.
Every opportunity still needs to be evaluated on its own merits.
4. Conduct Initial Due Diligence
Once a candidate M2 is identified, the analysis becomes aircraft-specific.
Depending upon the transaction, this can include reviewing maintenance records, inspection history, engine status, equipment, configuration, operating history and known damage or repair history.
We also consider upcoming maintenance requirements and other factors that may affect the aircraft’s economic value after closing.
The question isn’t simply:
What is this M2 worth today?
It is also:
What are you actually buying?
5. Establish Market Value and Negotiate
An asking price is not the same as market value.
We evaluate relevant comparable transactions, competing aircraft, maintenance status, equipment and current market conditions to establish a negotiating position.
The Jet Agent then represents the buyer during offer and Letter of Intent negotiations with the objective of establishing commercially appropriate terms before moving into the purchase agreement and inspection process.
6. Navigate the Purchase Agreement
The Aircraft Purchase Agreement establishes the contractual framework for the transaction, including the inspection and acceptance process, delivery conditions, closing requirements and obligations of buyer and seller.
The Jet Agent works with the client’s aviation attorney and other professional advisors as appropriate to help ensure the commercial terms accurately reflect the transaction the client intends to make.
7. Manage the Pre-Purchase Inspection
The pre-purchase inspection is one of the most consequential stages of a Citation M2 acquisition.
Our involvement does not end when the aircraft arrives at the inspection facility.
We remain engaged throughout the process, helping the buyer understand inspection findings, maintenance implications and the commercial decisions that may result from them.
In Greenwing Resource’s M2 acquisition, the process included initial due diligence, a test flight and a pre-purchase inspection at West Star Aviation in Grand Junction, Colorado.
The objective is to give the buyer the information necessary to make an informed acceptance decision before acquiring the aircraft.
8. Coordinate Closing and Delivery
Once the aircraft has satisfied the requirements for closing, The Jet Agent helps coordinate the remaining transaction details with the buyer, seller, escrow agent, attorneys and other parties involved.
Our role continues through closing and aircraft delivery.
A Citation M2 Acquisition in Practice
Greenwing Resource: Finding an Off-Market M2
Greenwing Resource engaged The Jet Agent to acquire a Citation M2.
The company’s Chief Pilot, Stan Bergey, was familiar with jet operations but new to the Citation lineup and recognized the value of model-specific market expertise.
After an in-depth discussion of budget and options, The Jet Agent identified three aircraft for consideration within a week.
The clear choice was an off-market 2015 Citation M2, serial number 525-0870.
The acquisition included initial due diligence, a test flight and a pre-purchase inspection at West Star Aviation in Grand Junction.
The aircraft was placed into service approximately 45 days after Greenwing Resource signed its acquisition agreement with The Jet Agent.
In Stan’s Words
โAfter in-depth discussion of budget and options, she had three planes in front of us within a week. The clear winner was an off-market beauty with motivated sellers.โ
Stan also credited The Jet Agent’s knowledge of the Citation line and market with helping manage expectations throughout the transaction and described the closing as smooth.

Finding an Off-Market Citation M2
The number of M2s publicly advertised at any given time does not necessarily represent every aircraft that could be purchased.
An owner may be willing to sell without publicly advertising the aircraft. In other cases, an aircraft may become available through industry relationships before it reaches the broader market.
Off-market sourcing can be particularly valuable when public inventory is limited or when a buyer has specific requirements involving year, equipment, maintenance status, total time or condition.
But off-market should never be confused with automatically being a good deal.
An off-market aircraft still needs to be valued, evaluated and inspected just as carefully as one offered publicly.
What Should You Look for When Buying a Pre-Owned Citation M2?
No two pre-owned M2s are economically identical.
Before committing to an aircraft, a buyer should understand more than its year, total time and asking price.
Important considerations can include:
- Maintenance and inspection status
- Engine time and maintenance program status
- Upcoming maintenance requirements
- Historical maintenance providers
- Completeness and quality of aircraft records
- Damage or significant repair history
- Avionics and equipment configuration
- Interior and exterior condition
- Operational history
- Pre-purchase inspection scope
- Current market value relative to comparable aircraft
Some differences are immediately visible.
Others become apparent only after careful review of the aircraft’s records, maintenance status and history.
That is why we evaluate an M2 as an individual aircraft rather than simply as another example of the model.
Citation M2 Acquisition FAQs
Is the Citation M2 a good first jet?
It can be.
The M2 is frequently considered by owner-pilots transitioning from turboprops or smaller aircraft into jet ownership.
Whether it is appropriate for a particular buyer depends on mission, pilot experience, training, insurance, operating requirements and budget.
How much does a used Citation M2 cost?
Citation M2 values vary with model year, total time, maintenance status, engine program status, equipment, condition and current market supply and demand.
Rather than relying solely on asking prices, The Jet Agent evaluates current inventory and relevant transaction data when establishing the value of a specific aircraft.
What should I look for when buying a Citation M2?
Maintenance history, engine status, upcoming inspections, records, damage history, equipment, condition and market value should all be considered.
A thorough pre-purchase inspection is also an important component of evaluating a candidate aircraft.
How important is TAP Blue when buying a Citation M2?
Engine program status can have a meaningful effect on both an M2’s market value and the buyer’s future engine-maintenance exposure.
The economics should be evaluated for the specific aircraft rather than assuming that enrollmentโor lack of enrollmentโis inherently good or bad.
Should I buy an M2 that isn’t enrolled on an engine program?
Potentially.
Program status is one component of the aircraft’s overall economics. A non-enrolled aircraft may still represent an attractive acquisition depending upon its price, engine time, maintenance history and the buyer’s intended ownership strategy.
The financial exposure should be understood before the aircraft is purchased.
Where should a Citation M2 pre-purchase inspection be performed?
The appropriate facility and inspection scope depend upon the aircraft and transaction.
The objective is to select a facility capable of thoroughly evaluating the aircraft while maintaining the independence necessary to protect the buyer’s interests.
Can The Jet Agent find Citation M2s that aren’t publicly for sale?
Yes.
The Jet Agent searches both publicly marketed aircraft and potential off-market opportunities.
In Greenwing Resource’s acquisition, The Jet Agent presented three M2 candidates within a week, and the aircraft ultimately purchased was off-market.
How long does it take to buy a Citation M2?
There is no standard acquisition timeline.
Availability of the right aircraft, negotiations, inspection scheduling, discrepancy resolution and closing requirements can all affect timing.
In Greenwing Resource’s acquisition of Citation M2 525-0870, the aircraft was placed into service approximately 45 days after the company engaged The Jet Agent.
That is one transaction result, not a guaranteed acquisition timeline.
