As we move through 2026, the business aircraft market continues to send mixed signals depending on where you look. A large industry publication recently reported an overall tightening in used jet inventory, with Cessna business jet inventory levels falling from roughly 3.3% of the active fleet in May 2025 to approximately 2.0% today. At a high level, that paints a picture of a strong seller’s market, and in many respects, that’s true. But broad market statistics only tell part of the story.
When we compare those generalized numbers against our proprietary Citation market data at The Jet Agent, a more nuanced picture begins to emerge. Across the Citation segment alone, inventory trends vary dramatically by model. Aircraft such as the M2/Gen2, CJ3, and Encore have seen notable increases in available inventory year-over-year, while others including the Mustang, CJ4/Gen2, XLS, and Longitude have dropped year-over-year. While broader OEM-level reports show overall Cessna inventory declining year-over-year, our model-specific Citation tracking tells a more nuanced story. Several Citation segments — including the M2/Gen2, CJ3, and Encore markets — have experienced inventory growth, while others such as the CJ4/Gen2, XLS, and Longitude remain highly constrained. In total, our tracked Citation inventory is actually up modestly year-over-year, despite broader industry reports suggesting sharper declines across the market.
That difference is exactly why specialized market intelligence matters. General business aviation reports provide a useful snapshot of the overall industry, but aircraft owners benefit most from model-specific expertise that reflects the realities of their exact market segment. A Citation owner evaluating timing, pricing, or upgrade opportunities needs insight tailored to their aircraft, not simply the broader business jet market.
As the newest Sales Director at The Jet Agent, I bring a background rooted in market research and analytics. As the company’s first employee, I was hired as a market research analyst, and I spent the last three years devoted to market research initiatives within our team before transitioning into aircraft sales. That analytical foundation allows me to help clients move beyond headlines and make informed decisions based on real-time, model-specific market behavior. Whether buying, selling, or evaluating future ownership plans, my goal is to provide clients with data-driven guidance that creates confidence and long-term value.
