Our January 2024 update on what’s happening in the Citation CJ4 preowned sales market;
Thanks to three new deliveries from the manufacturer in December, there are now 423 Citation CJ4 (and Gen2 variants) aircraft in operation today. Of those 423 CJ4s, 18 are currently for sale which represents 4.3% of the fleet. This is down slightly from last month when there were 22 available for sale, or 5.2% of the total fleet at the time. Strong sales activity in the Citation CJ4 market caused the decline in Citation CJ4s available for sale.
When following aircraft markets, there are a few things that we study. One of the metrics we follow is time on market- whether it’s for aircraft currently listed for sale, or aircraft that have sold recently (we follow a rolling average of the last six months). Of the 18 Citation CJ4s currently listed for sale, they have spent an average time of 179 days on the market so far. This figure is up from last month when the average time on market for available CJ4s was 139 days. When it comes to the average time on market for sold Citation CJ4s, seven CJ4s sold in December which caused the new rolling average to reflect 98 days which is virtually unchanged from last month when the average was 97 days.
One of the other statistics we study is pricing. We closely follow the list prices of available aircraft, as well as sold prices of aircraft, again on a rolling six-month average. Because the Citation CJ4 has been in production for almost 15 years, there can be a big difference in the range of prices of these aircraft. For example, the range of prices for Citation CJ4s (and the Gen2 variant) available for sale is $5,950,000 to $13,500,000. The same goes for sold prices of the CJ4, where over the last six months we saw sold prices from $6,150,000 all the way up to $12,600,000.
