Our September 2024 update on what’s happening in the Citation CJ4 preowned sales market;
After a month of no new CJ4 Gen2 deliveries, Textron recorded 3 new deliveries in August, bringing the total fleet size to 445. Of those, there are 38 for sale, representing 8.5% of the fleet. That is a substantial increase in CJ4s for sale compared to the previous month when there were 30 for sale, or 6.8% of the fleet.
The 38 Citation CJ4s (and Gen2s) for sale have been on the market for an average of 150 days, mostly unchanged from the previous month when the average was 148 days. There were 8 new CJ4 listings in August, replenishing the 9 CJ4s sold the previous month. The CJ4s (and Gen2s) for sale today range in asking price from $5,100,000 to $12,995,000.
After a very busy July when 9 CJ4s changed hands, August was a decidedly slow month with zero CJ4s sold. Over the last six months, 18 Citation CJ4s (and Gen2 variants) sold; 5 of which were off-market sales. The publicly advertised options spent an average of 109 days on the market before selling. The desirable CJ4 options are being advertised between 100-120 days before selling. The Citation CJ4s sold over the last six months range in sold price from approximately $6,750,000 to $12,775,000.
The CJ4 fleet is still subject to service bulletin 525C-56-01, and many sellers are electing to have this work done prior to listing their plane for sale, ensuring a smoother sales process.
