Citation CJ2 Market Update August 2026

August 2026 Citation CJ2 Market Report - The Jet Agent

The Citation CJ2 market enters August with the most buyer-favorable supply-and-demand profile among the major Citation models we are tracking this month. Inventory has moved higher through much of the spring and summer, while transaction activity has remained relatively modest. With 25 aircraft currently available compared with 15 sales over the past six months, buyers have meaningful selection and, in many cases, greater negotiating leverage than they do in the tighter Citation markets.

Fleet Size and Availability

There are currently 25 Citation CJ2 aircraft available for sale, including 3 off-market aircraft, representing 10.6% of the worldwide fleet.

Inventory stood at 19 aircraft in February, dipped to 18 in March, and then climbed to 22 in April and May. Supply eased slightly to 21 aircraft in June before rising to 24 in July, the highest month-end inventory level of the six-month period. Current availability has since increased to 25 aircraft.

At more than 10% of the worldwide fleet currently available, the CJ2 is operating with a relatively substantial level of supply. That stands in contrast to several other Citation markets where inventory has tightened materially heading into late summer.

Market Listings

Current asking prices range from $2.099 million to $4.5 million, with available aircraft averaging 198 days on market.

The broad asking-price range reflects meaningful differences within the CJ2 fleet. Model year, total time, maintenance status, engine program enrollment, Garmin panel upgrades, paint and interior condition, and overall aircraft history can create substantial separation between individual aircraft.

In the current environment, buyers have enough inventory to compare multiple alternatives rather than feeling compelled to pursue the first acceptable aircraft that becomes available. That places greater pressure on sellers to be realistic about both pricing and overall market position.

Current listings average 198 days on market, compared with just 130 days for aircraft sold during the past six months.

That 68-day difference is significant. The aircraft successfully reaching the closing table have generally moved more quickly than the inventory remaining for sale, suggesting buyers are selectively absorbing the strongest opportunities while allowing less competitive listings to age.

Sales Activity

A total of 15 CJ2 aircraft have sold during the past six months, including 5 off-market transactions, representing 6.4% of the fleet. Reported transaction prices ranged from $2.7 million to $3.3 million.

Monthly activity has been uneven. One aircraft sold in February, followed by five in March, three each in April and May, one in June, and two in July. Only three transactions occurred during the most recent two-month period, even as inventory remained elevated.

That recent relationship between supply and transaction activity is an important distinction from markets such as the CJ2+, where inventory is contracting as sales accelerate.

Key Takeaways

• 25 CJ2 aircraft are currently available, including 3 off-market.
• Current inventory represents 10.6% of the worldwide fleet.
• Inventory has increased from 18 aircraft in March to 25 today.
• 15 aircraft sold during the past six months, representing 6.4% of the fleet.
• Only 3 sales occurred in June and July combined.
• Asking prices range from $2.099 million to $4.5 million.
• Current listings average 198 DOM, versus just 130 days for sold aircraft.
• The combination of elevated inventory, slower recent sales, and aging active listings gives buyers meaningful leverage.

Key Insight

The CJ2 currently stands out as one of the clearest buyer-selective markets in the Citation segment. More than 10% of the fleet is available for sale, compared with only 6.4% of the fleet transacting during the past six months, while current listings have been on the market substantially longer than aircraft that actually sold.

That does not mean CJ2s are not selling. It means buyers have enough alternatives to be disciplined. Aircraft that combine favorable maintenance status, engine position, condition, history, and realistic pricing are still reaching the closing table, while less compelling listings are more likely to remain on the market.

For buyers, this creates opportunity. Selection is broader, comparison shopping is easier, and negotiating leverage is stronger than in many of the tighter Citation markets.

For sellers, the message is equally clear: pricing and positioning matter from day one. In a market with this level of available supply, an aircraft that enters the market too aggressively priced can quickly become part of the aging inventory, making a later repositioning more difficult.
